“It’s Good to Have a Go-To Media Contact”
Google Movie
Synopsis:
In 1940s South Carolina, mill
worker Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and rich girl Allie (Rachel McAdams) are
desperately in love. But her parents don't approve. When Noah goes off to serve
in World War II, it seems to mark the end of their love affair. In the interim,
Allie becomes involved with another man (James Marsden). But when Noah returns
to their small town years later, on the cusp of Allie's marriage, it soon
becomes clear that their romance is anything but over.
Scenario:
Allie is getting ready to
marry Lon (James Marsden) when she picks up a newspaper and notices a photo on the
front page of Noah with the house he promised to build when they were
together. Later, she drives out to the house to see Noah.
Selected Scene:
Allie: Hello, I saw your picture in the paper, the one with you and the house and I just wanted to come see if you were okay. I mean, I wasn’t in the neighborhood or anything. I just… So, are you okay? Okay, good. I’m a stupid woman, I shouldn’t have come.
Noah: You wanna come in?
Allie: Okay
Business Tip:
Too often we put our head
down and focus on the task at hand until the end of a project is what we believe to be completed. Sure, Noah's task was building the
house, but his project was finishing the house and sharing the completion of the "project' with Allie. We all know the outcome would have been different if Noah’s photo never made it in the paper. In today’s business environment, how many businesses do we see open and close
within a short period of time? In many cases, we never even stepped inside or had a reason to check out their product/service. A little media
exposure goes a long way, not only with the added visibility and awareness, but in some
cases (with the right positioning) it could even add a little credibility to
your project. Another thing, having a person’s email or telephone number
doesn’t make him/her your contact. You need
to form a mutually-beneficial relationship, someone that can provide a favor
when you really need one and vice versa. An article in a newspaper or online, highlighting a project you just completed, can be a nice exclamation point for the world to see or maybe just that one particular person you want to let know, you are alive and kickin!
